2011/12 Teachers of the Year from every campus were honored for their leadership, dedication, creativity, and enthusiasm in ensuring the educational and personal success of District students. The following teachers were selected by their colleagues for exemplifying teaching at its finest:

Jessica Fernandes, Buena Park High School, was chosen by the District Recognition Committee as one of the two Fullerton Joint Union High School District 2011/12 Teachers of the Year.
Jessica came to the District in 2006, taking over a struggling Agriculture program at BPHS. In the last five years, under Jessica’s leadership, the BPHS Agriculture program went from 62 students to a nationally-recognized program with 350 students and was awarded the distinction of the #1 High School Agriculture Program in the Western USA.
Jessica designed and manages a new Web site, has developed a recruitment DVD, and makes ongoing presentations to local middle schools. She also provides the opportunity for students to sell farm-grown vegetables to the community and to District Food Services.
Phil Pacia, Sonora High School, was also chosen as a Fullerton Joint Union High School District 2011/12 Teacher of the Year by the District Recognition Committee. Phil represents the District’s “grown our own” philosophy. He worked as a farm laboratory assistant while attending SOHS from 1996 to 2001. After graduation, Phil went on to California State University, Fresno, where earned a B.S. in Agriculture Mechanics in 2005. Phil Officially began his career in the District in 2005 as an agriculture teacher at SOHS. He currently teachers Agriculture courses in Business, Biology, Earth Science, Construction Technology, and Small Engines.
