Buena Park FFA at the 2016 Orange County Fair

Buena Park FFA students exhitbited their market animals at the Orange County Fair from July 15 - July 24th.  Students showcased market swine, sheep, goats, calves, rabbits, and turkey.  These students have spent months in preparing their projects for the fair and had their animals for as long as 90 days.  During their time having these projects, students fed their animals, exercised them, bathed them and made sure they had a safe environment.

On Friday July 15, 2016 we had our goats and sheep participate in the market judging competition. For market goats
Jassar Sorto got third place in his weight class. Jasmine Hernandez got first place in her weight class and Trinity Figurate got second in her class. Jasmine and Trinity made it to the final championship round and Jasmine left with Reserved Grand Champion. They also won first place in Chapter Group. For market sheep all 11 students made an awesome showing with regards to displaying their creatures and set amidst their classes. Maria Sandoval got first place in the heavyweight class and advanced to the Champion Drive. The Buena Park Sheep Group received third place in Chapter Group. The goat and sheep showmanship classes were held on Saturday July 16th. For goats, Jassar and Trinity made it to the last round of Novice Showmanship. Jassar got sixth and Trinity got second. For sheep, Rosario Diaz, Danyel Wickoff and Maria Sandoval made it to the last round for Advanced Showmanship. Maria placed fifth in the Advanced class.


Also on  Saturday July 16th we had our turkey exhibitors participate in the market judging competition. Paulina Cortez, Edwin Madrid and Julio Aranda demonstrated their hen and toms. Students made an extraordinary showing with regards to demonstrating their turkeys and said something with the biggest weights for their toms; 42 pounds, 39.9, and 32! On Sunday July 17th our rabbit exhibitors participated in the market judging competition. Out of the 6 students, three of them went to the Champion Drive. Rosa Abrego received fourth, Paulina Trujillo received third and Brenda Vega received Grand Champion for her meat market pen. On Sunday our calf project exhibitors participated in market and showmanship. Danyel Wickoff received second in her market class and got second in showmanship. Arianna Carlos received third in her market class and first in Novice Showmanship. Arianna progressed to the Master Showmanship class the following Sunday receiving 4th overall.

On Wednesday July 20th, our swine exhibitors participated in market judging. Juan Aguilar and Tyler Miranda got eighth place in their classes. Brian Velasquez got  seventh  place in his class. Gabriel Berry got sixth place in his class. Cecilia Sandoval, Devan Muro and Annie Harris got fourth in their classes. Andrew Wickoff, Maria Gaeta and Sofia Azpeitia got third in their classes. Isabel Trout and Rodolfo Diaz got second in their classes. Edwin Madrid and Daniel Delgado got first place in their classes. As a chapter the Buena Park FFA swine received second place for Chapter Group.
On Thursday July 21st, our swine group participated in showmanship. Andrew Wickoff got fourth place for the novice class. Tyler Miranda got sixth in the novice class. Rodolfo Diaz got seventh in the novice class. Alex Aguilar got eighth in the novice class. Gabriel Berry got fourth in the advanced class. Maria Gaeta got fifth in the advanced class. Isabel Trout got seventh in the advanced class. Brian Velasquez got eighth in the advanced class.
